Eastern Suburbs are delighted to announce the appointment of Shane Knowles as the club’s new head of football.
Knowles returns to the club where he started his coaching career and will oversee the development of both women’s and men’s football throughout all age groups including both players and staff at Eastern Suburbs.
“I am extremely excited to be back at the club where I had the opportunity to begin my coaching career” Knowles said.
“We have some experts in the football profession at Eastern Suburbs and I am looking forward to work alongside them in creating pathways for both our players and coaches, ensuring they develop further to hit their full potential.”

Knowles brings a lot of experience to the Lilywhites coaching team. Starting his coaching career with Eastern Suburbs, he then moved on to Lynn-Avon United, where he led their men’s premier side to a LOTTO NRFL Men’s Premier title in 2009.
The following season, Knowles made the switch to Bay Olympic, where he spent eight years as the Director of Football and won back to back league titles in 2011 and 2012.
In 2019, he was appointed the Director of Football at St. Peter’s College in Cambridge where he spent the last five years of his coaching career before heading back to Auckland to re-join Eastern Suburbs AFC as our new head of football.
Knowles begins as the lilywhites new head of football in 2025.
