Eastern Suburbs AFC Announced Leadership Transition in Women's Football Programme

In a significant move for New Zealand’s premier community football club, Eastern Suburbs AFC announces a leadership transition in our Women’s Football division. As Stephen Hoyle takes on a new role with Central Football in early 2024, focusing on the Hawkes Bay region, we are elated to introduce Katie Duncan as the new Director of Women’s Football. Stephen Hoyle, during his tenure as Director of Women’s Football, shaped the programme with his dedication and passion for developing both the sport and its players.

Stephen shares, “I’ve cherished every moment as Suburbs Director of Women’s Football. As I prepare for my next adventure with Central Football, I’ll be immersing myself fully in my last few months as head coach during the NWL. The camaraderie, training sessions, games, and overall environment at Eastern Suburbs AFC is something profoundly special to me.”

On Katie Duncan’s appointment, Stephen comments, “Knowing Katie will be stepping into the Women’s First Team and overall girls and womens programme post my departure is heartening. Our shared philosophies on football and nurturing talent make her the perfect successor. She’s a coach and individual I hold in high esteem, and Suburbs is truly fortunate to have her.”

Katie Duncan, a stalwart in New Zealand football, also has a rich history with Eastern Suburbs, having been part of the league-winning team in 2013 and more recently the Auckland Women’s Football coaching team in 2020. With a playing career spanning 12 years for the Football Ferns, featuring three Olympic Games and four FIFA Women’s World Cups, and significant coaching accomplishments at Auckland United Football Club, Katie brings unparalleled expertise and passion to the role.

Club Chairman, Simon Hilton, echoes these sentiments, “We’re deeply appreciative of Stephen’s contributions and are confident in his continued leadership for the rest of the season. Looking ahead to 2024, Katie Duncan’s appointment signals a promising and exciting phase for our Women’s Football programme.” Her wealth of experience, both on and off the field, and alignment with the club’s values ensures that our Women’s Football programme is poised for continued growth and success.”

Eastern Suburbs AFC remains committed to the advancement of women’s football and looks forward to the fresh perspectives and dynamism Katie Duncan is set to infuse into the programme.
